Radiator valves are important to maintain track of the heat output of your new radiator or heated towel rail. At Hampshire Plumbers UK, we stock a variety of modern and conventional valve models to help you add the essential finish to your new appliance or simply upgrade your current radiators.
Modern radiator valves are much more than just a functional item for monitoring your heating. As well as being an important part of maintaining a steady and safe temperature, a radiator valve must be stylish too!
That’s why our comprehensive range of radiator valves includes a number of colours, styles, and finishes to help you complete your new radiator or towel rail look.
Types of Radiator Valves
Radiator valves are of two major types – thermostatic radiator valves – also known as TRVs – and manual radiator valves.
TRVs regulate the radiator temperature by monitoring the velocity of the water that flows through it. Wax or liquid gel (which are sensitive to heat) is included in every thermostatic valve purchase. The gel expands and contracts based on how the dial is set up. If you manually adjust the heat settings, you can limit the average room temperature and reduce your energy use.
Manual radiator valves tend to be smaller, have no dial, and have a simple, minimalist feel. Like TRVs, they regulate the radiator temperature and the flow of water running through it. However, they don’t have a dial that controls the radiator to set temperatures. Rather, it acts like an on-off switch which helps the user to shut off their radiator without shutting off the central heating system.
Thermostatic Radiator Valve
You may choose to purchase your TRV separately if you want to match a radiator previously installed, or you may decide to buy it as a TRV combi pack, which will come with the TRV and Lockshield Valve (to plug the other side of the radiator).
If you are installing radiators or replacing radiators in your house, TRV Combi Packs are ideal. For the more design-conscious, Thermostatic Radiators Valves are also available with all chrome versions that fit beautifully with every decor on offer.
It is equally important that you select the right size TRV (typically determined by the thickness of the pipework on your radiators), usually 8mm, 10mm or 15mm. Many TRV packs contain adaptor sizes to suit anything or are available separately in one size.
A Variety of Radiator Valve Designs
The radiator valves come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. Not all valves perform the same function and are designed for the same purposes, which makes it vital that you choose the right one for your radiator or heated towel line.
TRVs and manual valves come designed in angled, corner, or straight fittings, and are available in elegant, contemporary models or conventional designs to match the theme of your interior design.
Your radiator valve, size and design should be determined by where your pipework is located on your property and the inlets on your radiator. Check out our professional guide on radiator valves to read more about the various types of radiator valves available and what radiator valve you may need.
Which Radiator Valves do I Need ?
The radiator valves come in multiple shapes, designs, and sizes. It may sound like an easy job to pick the right ones, but there are a few things to note before you buy the item.
- Where your pipework comes from
- Where radiator inlets are positioned
- Your preferred design style
Follow these three basic criteria to ensure you get your radiator valves right the first time.
